The Dão wine region is
located in the center-north Portugal and is influenced by the Duero
river and Sierra de la Estrela, of steep hills. The result of
this influence are red wines with good graduation and quite tannic
due to the duration of the macerations. The climate far from
being Atlantic receives hot summers and humid winters, a mild
continental climate resumly.
High opacity seal of
the Touriga Nacional grape variety and a ruby colour in disc. Very
fruity nose aromas as well as floral touchs in second place. The
barel hints are melted. Very alcoholic entrance eclipsying acidity
and almost its end, long and warm (13% vol.). He came somewhat
aggressive in my opinion. It is also assumed that it has
been 6 months in the barrel to tame the Tempranillo and TN
tannins.
This reference leaves from
Quinta de Cabriz winery, located in landscapes that I had the
opportunity to meet this summer on my visit to Portugal-north. Well,
this coupage is very typical of the Dão region too: Alfrocheiro
(star grape of the D.O.C), Tinta-Roriz (Tempranillo) and
Touriga Nacional.
