Vila Real branco reserva (DOC Douro): Viosinho, Malvasia and Fernão-Pires give another medal to Vila-Real

The year 2014 in the Douro region began with a rainy winter, paving the way for a mild summer characterized by substantial temperature differences between the daytime and nighttime hours. This climatic amalgamation facilitated an extended and consistent ripening of the grapes, culminating in a bountiful harvest that showcased a rich fruit profile complemented by harmonious acidity levels.

From Vila Real (20 km to Douro river) arrives this reserve white wine. The Douro River is the axis on which an immense palette of varieties take place. In this case we have Viosinho, Malvasia and Fernão-Pires (= María Gomes in DOC Bairrada). The three with exogenous origin (Trás-os-Montes, mediterranean and center-Portugal respectively).

2014 Vintage: A lemon yellow color without defects. Seductive and intense nose with aromatic herbs, cask wood and mineral aromas. The best. A light and easy to drink mouth with citrus and the typical step by oak notes ( partially fermented in barrels and subsequent aging on lees). Short finish, with good acidity and 12'5% volume in alcohol very well integrated.

Rui Madeira and Luís Cortinhas are the responsibles for this product from the west  Douro wine region. A lot of recognitions: one silver medal in Decanter World Wine Awards 2o15, premio boa compra 2015, one bronze medal in International Wine Challenge 2o15 and 87/100 points in Wine Spectator. Good relationship quality / price: 2'99 euros in E. Leclerc supermarkets.
