Domaine Muzard 1er cru Maladière blanc 2020 (AOC Santenay)

Domaine Lucien Muzard & Fils is a historic winery on the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy. The ninth generation of the family is here and their concern is to get the best of each strain and the most of each of their 16 hectares divided into different districts. Its reds are the majority but its few whites are exciting and leave a mark, like this Chardonnay first cru.

Lemon yellow color in line with its recent vintage. Reference uncorked in 2020, two years after récolte. Aromatically we find a wonderful complexity around mineral, cereals or citrus rind notes. A fresh mouthfeel with beautiful tension because Maladière is a chalky terroir. A certain density in the development, with saline, herbal, citrus mouth-aromas with integrated notes of aging in burgundian barrels. A mouth finsih where that liveliness returns and complete.

A white that easily exceeds 30 euros since we are talking about a denomination that will always be in the shadow of Puligny-Montrachet or Meursault. As a pairing try to find an Avonlea & Le Pont blanc cheese, activated charcoal puffed rice, beet sour cream, roasted pistachios, dill jelly, beet mousse, fresh dill. As second option why not a Scallop delight with truffle oil and mushroom fricassee?
