Domaine Chiroulet cuvée Côte d'Heux (IGP Côtes de Gascogne): Pyrenees, Gros Manseng and freshness in this southwest Cru

This is one of the best whites from the Gascogny slopes wine region (south-west France, between sea and Garonne river). But let's start at the beginning, in Larroque sur l'Ose (Gers province) where the Fezas family run 45 hectares of vines between 10 and 40 years old. In the single vineyard Côte d'Heux, the old Gros Manseng vines will give Philippe Fezas the precise elements to create a white that can accompany an entire meal!

2020 vintage: Visually, lemon yellow color but with some greenish flashes that resist even three years after harvest. A very pleasant and perfumed nose: orgy of citrus notes, flowers from the Basque fields, grass from the Gascon prairie on an exotic background. In the mouth, it is wide and round (13% vol.). Dense and very balanced development thanks to the freshness of the Manseng varietal. Mouth-aromas of white stone fruit, orange, lime... very fruity. Long and spicy finish for this great gros.

Without a doubt one of the best vignerons in the Sud-Ouest of France, which is also one of the regions with the best quality-price ratio for its wines (today's, 13 euros). Thank you, Philippe, for this little piece of Larroque sur l'Ose bottled and ready to serve at 11º C. As a pairing, look for dishes made with an Atlantic touch: How about a stuffed sea bream baked in the oven with chimichurri sauce? Utzi familia osoa jaten!

  1. There are some excellent gros manseng producers and it’s a wine that is gaining in popularity.
