Domaine la Monardière cuvée Jeu de Garri 2020 (AOC Vacqueyras)

The Marsanne – Grenache Blanc combination is one of the most opportune for the producers of the northern Rhône Valley. Why? Because to begin with both are comfortable on rocky and poor soils in that area. Later, both are capable of giving wines with body and richness. On an aromatic level, together they can give an original and highly complex result. A fun and interesting assemblage (here 50-50), a game for the Monardière boys from Vacqueyras village: the Garri game.

Straw yellow color with silver reflections, clean and flawless. Nose for white fruit accompanied by herbal echoes (dill, fennel, white flower, almond...), so Garri. Dense and dry on the palate. Development with floral aromas typical of the White Grenache. There is the volume (14% vol.) and the richness of the whites from the southern Rhône, where the Marsanne shines. It lacks freshness but there is an interesting register of white spice that accentuates the feeling of spaciousness. The 50% of the wine has aged in demi-muids and is fortunately not marked by the wood.

We uncorked this wine two years after its harvest and the result is a great product, with an ecological seal, which is capable of accompanying an entire meal thanks to that structure. This cuvée is valued at 16 euros. Without leaving this blog or the Monardière, read about their cuvée 2019 Vieilles Vignes. Going back to white and as a pairing we recommend a Seared Scallops from Mediterranean sea with piperade creamy pork chorizo sauce and parsnip chips.
