Bostavan DOR Fetească Neagră Pinot Noir 2017 (Moldova): Victor Bostan bets on the alliance of eastern and western grapes

In Italy there is Nebbiolo, in Spain Tempranillo, in France Cabernet Sauvignon and in Romania Fetească Neagră (black Maiden). All the varieties mentioned are very representative of their countries, but they do not therefore reject blending when the winery deems it appropriate. Bostavan winery considers that Pinot Noir, also well adapted to the eastern Moldova's cold climates, is the right one to balance with the FN's alcohol. Two varieties being difficult to work in the vineyard given their delicacy. In the winery things change, with controlled yields we can find a remarkable aging potential and interesting results in complexity of sensations terms.

The FN fast evolution translates into a brick red color, of medium opacity but with colored tears. On the nose there is intensity, in the first place there is fruit from the Codru's forets region with its flowers, along with earthy and licorice notes. In that sense it conveys terroir. The fruit is broken down into raspberry, blackberry, cherry and cassis without a herbal background. In the mouth a round entry. The development is fleshy, sweet and medium structured. The freshness goes from less to less amid a spicy and warm weave. There are tertiary notes (6 to 12 months in the barrel) integrated but above all of wild black fruit. Pleasant tannin in a spicy and chewy finish.

A good combination that gives a good result to this wine with an unbeatable price (75 MDL / $ 4 to 5). If you like to taste Eastern European wines at a good price this option is very worthy. No carafage is required. The serving temperature is well around 13º C. As a pairing, stewed, roasted and grilled meats are great options. My proposals are a Beef sirloin, roasted sourish indivia and orange gel. As a second match, a Milanese cutlet, with mashed early potatoes. Take the opportunity to discover the gastronomy of Moldova traveling through Suceava (trip to the monasteries), Orheiul Vechi, Cricova winery, Soroca, Tiraspol or Milestii Mici (be very careful with taxi drivers !!)
