Domaine Guion cuvée Prestige BIO 2017 (AOC Bourgueil)

Bourgueil AOC is one of the most prestigious appellations in the Loire Valley in its Touraine region. This denomination approved in 1937 gives prominence to the Cabernet Franc, which is declined in red or rosé and in turn, depending on the type of soil (tuffeau, gravel, clay, chalk or sand) gives that variety one character or another. Its 1,400 hectares extend over 7 villages: Bourgueil, Couzé s/ Loire, Ingrandes-de-Touraine, Chapelle s/ Loire, Restigné, Benais, St-Patrice and St-Nicolas de Bourgeuil. The Guion family, installed in Benais, treasures 7 hectares.

Medium-low robe as is typical of the Bouchy / Breton / Cabernet Franc variety. A nose for the red fruits in its bush hints, accompanied by herbal, spicy and liquorice notes, result of that beginning of evolution; It maintains very well the Cabernet Franc varietal character. On the palate a dry entrance, a good freshness takes over the development making it unaltered. Light structure and easy to drink (12.5% vol.) Mouth aromas where the bush fruit (raspberry, currant) returns until it converges with herbal notes and a polished tannin.

Stéphane Guion values this prestigious cuvée at 18 euros more or less. The Guion family has the honor of being one of the pioneers in organic wines from the Loire Valley since 1965, 29 years later will be my friend Stéphane who has promoted the winery and given it an international projection. Serve at 12º C and as pairings a Roast pork, meat burgers or stew, meatballs in tomato sauce, chicken curry with tomato or turkey with cranberries. Oh là là!
